Commander’s Comments

I encourage everyone to take advantage of the Saturday morning breakfasts at your Post. We are serving a variety of breakfast items from 8:00 until 10:00 am at the best prices in town! Come on out and support your Post!

On a similar note, the Cleveland Browns start the season on Sunday, September 13 at 1:00 pm when the Browns host the Minnesota Vikings. Our Post Canteen will be open on Sundays to accommodate those of us who want to interact with other rabid fans. All members are encouraged to attend these Sunday football sessions and bring your favorite game-time munchies for self and others.

Reminder: The Post meeting is at 7:00 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month. All regular VFW members are invited to attend these meetings.

Quartermaster’s Report

Our Post membership is 140 members in good standing, with 97 of them being Life Members.

All reports have been filed with the VFW Department of Ohio within prescribed timeframes. Our Post is financially solvent with sufficient cash to finance our operations and charitable goals.

Reminder: The Ladies Auxiliary meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. All members are invited to attend these meetings.

Men’s Auxiliary Update

Nothing has changed for the past few months. Without proper documentation, we cannot process the applications.

We currently have 14 applications with verified documentation and another 13 applications that lack the documentation in the form of either a DD-214 or SF 181. We also have a number of men who have expressed a desire to join but have not submitted either an application or any verification. I will be contacting those applicants who still need to submit documentation during the month of August. Our intent is to submit the charter application by the end of summer.

We still need to plan an organizational meeting when we reach 25 completed and verified applications. The meeting will be to nominate officers for the Men’s Auxiliary. A slate of officers needs to be approved by the members prior to submitting the charter application as the signature of the Auxiliary President is required on the application.

Facilities Notes

Football Sundays! I am going to keep the canteen open on Sundays to accommodate viewing the 1:00 and 4:00 kick-off games each Sunday during the NFL season. Come out and support both your Post and favorite team. Wear team colors and be ready to cheer or jeer your favorite plays!

I encourage each of you to spread the word about our hall availability. We continue to have success in renting our hall to members of the Post and community members. The hall is available for rent on a reserved basis with the fee being paid in advance. Call me during the day at 330-682-4971 to reserve our hall or check on availability and costs.

Additionally, we are always open to ideas on providing social activities that benefit our members. If any of you have any ideas or suggestions for a social event, please bring your ideas to me. We can find a place on the calendar and make it happen.
